For centuries the beets have been used to treat many health conditions. That is because of the many benefits that they have.
They have been used in ancient tradition. For example for treating fever and constipation in Roman times people used beetroot. They can be also used to bind wounds according to the father of the medicine Hippocrates. Diseases, especially the ones that were associated with digestion and blood were treated with beetroot back in the Middle Ages.
A very potent antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties is betalain. In any part of the beet plant this antioxidant can be found, but this antioxidant is also present in stems, fruits, flower petals and roots. There is also a proof that betalain can be extremely effective in the cases with cancer.
Beetroots are good source of folic acid and manganese. There is 127% of the recommended daily amount of vitamin A, 500% of the recommended daily amount of vitamin K and the 50% recommended daily amount of vitamin C in the leaves. But the beetroots also contain calcium, iron, copper, potassium, magnesium and many more.
The juice of beetroots or the beet juice is effective in treating skin problems, anemia, kidney issues, liver issues, eye issues and even cancer.
If you decide to drink the beet juice, do not worry if you notice that your urine and/or stool are kind of reddish in color because that is absolutely normal – the beetroots are red. Also remember that you should consume raw juice because after cooking the betalains are ‘killed’ and the oxalic acid can turn to do more harm then. If you want to get the best results from the beet juice make sure you use everything – from the roots to the greens. This way you will intake all the minerals and vitamins that are present in the beetroot. During the week you will need only one ounce (slowly increasing to two) of this juice in order to get all the benefits from it.
